I used Piktochart to make this back to school infographic for our parent’s night a few years back. I just found it in some files that I was cleaning out, and I thought I would post it and share in case anyone could get some great ideas from it. Piktochart is super easy to use, and it’s FREE!! They have lots of super cute options under they’re free plans, so I didn’t really find a need to upgrade to the premium.
It was super easy to put together, and parent night was a huge success. The way that parent night worked at this particular school was that parents/guardians walked through their student’s schedule and each teacher had 15 minutes to go over important information. I had a brief handout with the most important information on it, but I encouraged each parent to take pictures of each slide or visit the website we had at the time where this information was stored. Each one of these squares acted like a slide, so it made filling up that 15 minutes go by quickly but still gave us the right amount of time to get through everything they needed to know!
There are tons of ways that these could be used… I mean, look at the cuteness….
I’m going to make it my goal to use these more for different lessons this coming school year and to even have students use them. Here are just a few ideas I’ve got rolling around in my head…
- Character comparisons
- Theme representations
- Basic “book reports”
- Book comparisons
- Steps of writing different essays
- Persuasive topics (instead of a persuasive essay maybe)
- Results of surveys
- Different option for portfolios (maybe? I’m not sure if they allow for embedding work)
- Presentations at teacher training or staff meetings
I love a good presentation that’s not a PowerPoint, and I forget that Piktochart is out there! Hope this helps to bring a little joy to your back to school planning!
