Come with us to the Saint Luis Arch!

Did you know that there is an entire museum below the Saint Louis Arch? This national park (yes, it’s a national park!) had been on my bucket list for years and years, and in one of our first drives to Indianapolis, we made a stop. The main reason to visit the arch is of course to take the tram elevator up to the top, but I can’t recommend saving time to go through the museum too!

I would highly suggest getting your tickets before you arrive. The first time we went, there were no times available that would work for us, so we had to readjust our schedule. According to the national park website, spring and summer are both very busy and they sell out frequently. Once you go through security, then you’ll go down an escalator to head toward the tram elevators…

At this point, masks were still required, but they are not anymore. After waiting to enter, the park attendant counted us all out into groups and lined us up by numbers. They had a short historical video playing while we waited…

Then you get into the little pod like tram elevators. It was quite cramped and somewhat claustrophobic, but it went pretty quickly. Here we are riding along…

Once you get out, they give you about ten minutes or so to look around. The day that we went, it was pretty crowded, but overall, it was pretty cool.  Looking out of the little windows was a little difficult, but seeing how high up we were and remembering that we were inside this incredible architecturally amazing feat of metal was mind blowing.  Here’s a great clip of the side to side view…

Here’s more information on how to go.

Overall, it was a great experience. My girls had a great time visiting the museum. I was too busy looking at all the cool stuff and didn’t actually get ANY pictures of the museum. They do have a nice food court area with a pretty good variety of food and drinks.

If you have an America the Beautiful pass, then tram tickets can be purchased a discounted rate (although it’s not much). There is more information about prices here.
